Although this fried bread can be made with regular Portuguese bread or any other baguette style bread, it is extra special when made with sweet bread.

1 loaf of Portuguese bread or sweet bread

3 eggs

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 cup milk

The grated rind of a lemon

Cinnamon

Mix the milk, water, sugar and lemon peel together and bring to a boil. Allow to cool a bit. Slice the bread and roll it in liquid. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and dip the moist bread in the egg.

Fry in oil, turning once to brown on each side.

Sprinkle with cinnamon or cinnamon sugar.
