Portuguese Sweet Bread

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 tsp. salt

1 cup milk

5 eggs

5 to 6 cups all purpose flour

2 yeast cakes dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water

 

Mix everything together. Shape into round loaves and put into large pie plates or round cake pans. Let rise. Bake 300° to 350° for 40 to 45 minutes. The bread is done when it sounds hollow if tapped on the bottom.

Makes 2 loaves.
