These little chocolate goodies, similar to truffles, are also called "docinhos," little sweets, in Brazil. Sylvia says they are often served at Brazilian birthday parties and were named after Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, a famous Brazilian Air Force commander in the 1940's.

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1/2 stick butter

2 heaping tbsp. Nestlé's Quick

(or 1 tbsp. Quick and 1 tbsp. Hershey's Cocoa. The latter will

be less sweet.)

In a heavy saucepan, mix the chocolate and condensed milk. Add the butter. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until you can see the bottom of the pan. Cool completely. Form the mixture into little balls. Roll each candy in cocoa powder or chocolate jimmies and place in small paper cups.

Makes 2 or 3 dozen, depending on the size of each brigadier.
